How to Create an Herb Planter From a Mug

I love having an indoor herb garden. It’s wonderful to have tasty herbs right at my fingertips. Using a ceramic mug as a planter is a perfect way to add a little color and style to your indoor herb garden. Follow the easy steps below to make your perfect herb garden in ceramic mugs.

  1. Choose Your Mugs and Herbs

If you’re planting herbs that are already grown, you will want to opt for a larger mug. If you’re planting herbs from seeds, a smaller mug will work perfectly.

  1. Fill With Soil

Next, you will want to fill your mugs with soil. If possible, use quality organic soil as this will be best for your herbs. If you’re worried about overwatering, make sure to add small pebbles to rocks (about an inch) to the bottom before adding the soil. This will help with drainage.

  1. Plant Your Herbs.

If you’re planting fully grown herbs, you will want to make sure that your herbs have enough space in your mugs. This might mean splitting up one herb into multiple mugs. If you’re planting from seeds, dig down about an inch into the soil and plant your seeds.

  1. Water and Care

Once your herbs are planted, you will need to water them regularly and ensure that they have access to sunlight. When watering the soil should be moist. Follow the guidelines for your particular kind of herb. Monitor your herbs and if it seems that they are too big for the mug, you might need to move them outside or transplant them.

Your kitchen will look adorable with your herbs planted in cute ceramic mugs. Enjoy having tasty herbs right at your fingertips! What are your favorite herbs to plant? Tell us in the comments.
